Maher Sabry

An accomplished language teacher, Maher is also a published author and poet, a cartoonist, and a film director and editor. After graduating from Cairo University where he studied literature, he worked as a teacher and translator.

His first poetry collection, Marionette (ماريونيت), was published by Garad Books in Cairo in 1998. As a cartoonist and illustrator his work was featured in Egyptian periodicals, including the Cairo Times.

He received the Felipa de Souza Human Rights Award in May 2002. In addition, he directed the award-winning Egyptian film All My Life (طول عمري) in 2008, as well as working as an editor on several independent movies.

Maher teaches Standard and Egyptian Arabic as well as calligraphy at Pacific Arabic.
