Tuition and Registration

OverviewOur Summer Intensive programs are eight-week courses, equivalent to one year of college-level study. Students may also register for half of an intensive class, completing one semester of study in four weeks. Such students should register for "Intensive A" (the first four weeks) or "Intensive B" (the last four weeks).

ScheduleBeginner and Intermediate Intensives meet simultaneously from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from June 25 to August 17. "Intensive A" (the first four weeks) meets from June 25 to July 20, and the "Intensive B" (the last four weeks) meets from July 23 to August 17.

ApproachWe strive to balance written and verbal skills. Class time involves plenty of speaking and drilling, and the 45 minutes each day of pure conversational practice ensure that students will feel competent using their language skills in the real world. However, we give equal attention to developing students' grasp of the written language.

Summer Intensive Arabic

BeginnerBeginner Summer Intensive is for students with no prior exposure to Standard Arabic, the lingua franca of the Arab world. After finishing the eight-week course, students will be able to read, write, speak, and understand Arabic at an intermediate level. The Beginner Intensive program is taught by school founder and veteran Arabic teacher Jamal Mavrikios.

Beginner CurriculumThe eight-week Beginner Intensive course covers all the material of our first year Standard Arabic curriculum (Arabic 1-6). (Students registering for Beginner Intensive B must have completed the material covered in our Arabic 1-3 courses.) You'll find an outline of these classes here. Students are required to spend time outside of class working with audio CDs and completing exercises in order to keep up with the rapid pace of this course.

IntermediateIntermediate Summer Intensive is for students who have completed the equivalent of one year of college-level Arabic. Students will greatly expand their understanding of Arabic verbs and greatly expand their vocabulary while approaching challenging readings. After finishing the eight-week course, students have greatly enhanced their listening and reading comprehension, and their comfort in producing the language in speech and writing. The Intermediate Intensive program is taught by instructor Maher Sabry.

Intermediate CurriculumThe eight-week Intermediate Intensive course covers all the material of our second year Standard Arabic curriculum (Intermediate Arabic 1-7). (Students registering for Intermediate Intensive B must have completed the material covered in our Intermediate Arabic 1-3 courses.) The full eight-week course begins with a thorough treatment of Arabic verbs, along with real-life listening comprehension drills. After this initial "boot camp," the course will cover the first six units of Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya with DVDs: A Textbook for Arabic, Part Two, Second Edition (Part 2).

ContinuationStudents who wish to continue their Arabic study at the end of summer have several options. In September we will offer Intermediate Arabic 1 for students who complete Beginner Intensive and Advanced Arabic 1 for those who complete Intermediate Intensive. Students with an interest in a specific region may also wish to enroll in a dialect course. We currently offer Moroccan, Tunisian, Egyptian, Levantine and Gulf dialects. These classes will be offered on weeknights.

We can also help students explore options for study abroad and other international opportunities, and will be happy to write letters of recommendation.

Summer Intensive Hebrew

BeginnerBeginner Summer Intensive is for students with no prior exposure to Modern Hebrew. Unlike Ulpan-type programs, which focus largely on spoken communication, our program gives equal attention to developing students' written and verbal language skills. After finishing the eight-week course, students will be able to read, write, speak, and understand Hebrew at an intermediate level. The Beginner Intensive program is taught by veteran Hebrew teacher Max Weinryb.

Beginner CurriculumThe eight-week Beginner Intensive course covers all the material of our first year Hebrew curriculum (Hebrew 1-6). (Students registering for Beginner Intensive B must have completed the material covered in our Hebrew 1-3 courses.) You'll find an outline of these classes here.
